The biggest thing that has happened everyone close to me already knows about. I'm engaged! It's crazy,
there is so much feelings that go along woth it. Especially because of a fact that some of you don't know about. Cassandra is going home for the fall so that she can finish school before we're married, so she left for texas yesterday. It is crazy emotional highs and lows within the same week! The nice thing is that I believe I am going to become a very productive person with all this free time. I already cleaned my apartment and car, went mountain biking, paid all my bills, played a soccer game, and went to work, and that was just today! Oh well, things are going really well. I love cassandra and am soo happy that things are going well with us. I'm looking forward to getting over this part and closer to the married life like the rest of you! The only things that happen are really everyday things and I don't really feel like writing about all my politic views or commenting on current events. So this is really just always going to be an update on me, not really anything to spectacular. Well, scratch that because it is going to be about me. Awesome. So one of the biggest things that has been happening is the reconsideration of my career path. I know, again. So the biggest things that I want from a job is that I want to be able to make a noticeable, positive impact on the world and be able to provide for people that I care about. So this is why I was thinking of the FBI, getting rid of some of the bad guys of the world seems like a good thing. I have been thinking about it a lot though, you just enforce the laws that are already in place and you don't have much say for policy making, in shaping the events of the world. YOu are following someone else's lead, and I can't say that the leadership of this country has always been something that I agree with. So I have been thinking about switching to something where I would be able to influence the decisions made and future policy and events. So there are basically three options that I have in mind. If you're my family reading this, let me know what you think. I have been thinking of Teaching (strictly as a professor, I don't think i would do well in high school, I would just get really fed up with the kids I think), Law (Starting off as a lawyer, possibly juvenile defense, giving kids a shot at life even though they have messed up. That or Criminal prosecutor.) or entering into the world of politics and trying to make a positive difference in this world of ours. Just some of the things that I have been thinking about, if you know me let me know what you think.

School: I love it and yet I hate it. I love being able to learn new things and there is definitely no better place to do that than at college. I have finally decided on what I am going to be doing. I am double majoring in philosophy and spanish. When I am done with my bachelor's I am going to apply to law school. That means that I still have a lot more school. Good thing that I enjoy school. My case in point is many of today's people. It used to be that if there was a problem then the person was just supposed to "man up" and fix it. It doesn't seem to be that way anymore. Supposedly in the effort to make everyone better adjusted individuals we have tried to bubble wrap the world. It ranges from everything from the government bailing out businesses to telling people that it's not really their fault that they did something, it was evil mcDonald's that made them fat or something from their childhood that has supposedly fatally scarred their psyche. I think that is a fatal flaw in today's society. If no one takes responsibility for their actions and their consequences, nothing will ever get solved. it is always someone elses job and we will all become lazy and dependant. There is no way to fix a problem unless you recognize that you are at the crux of it and decide to change. It just seems that mediocrity is being encouraged and if you don't get there, it's not your fault so we'll help you along.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for helping people get above the station of wherever they are in life. That however does not mean we need to bring everyone to the same level. For instance there was a kid in little league that was an awesome pitcher. He had a ton of no hitter games in a row. He was good enough in fact that other coaches would not put in their players to bat when he was pitching because they didn't want the kids' feelings hurt. So what did they do to remedy the problem? They kicked the pitcher out of the league and banned him from playing.

Maybe it's just me but that doesn't seem right. We need people to stop shifting responsibility to others and own their own problems, otherwise they will never be able to solve them. We also need to not promote mediocrity. Sometimes people fail and that's that. If you never let someone really fail or succeed, they will never really learn.

So, since everyone else in my family seems to have one of these I decided that I would start up one of these, just to fill everyone in on the exciting life of Daniel Lloyd Petersen.
